1. Vaquita
Named by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as the marine mammal The rarest in the world, the vaquita belongs to the porpoise family and lives in shallow, dark lagoons on the coast of North America.
Currently, environmental authorities estimate that there are around 10 vaquitas alive in the wild, compared to three times that number just 5 years ago.
2. Saola
Saola is a type of cattle found only in Vietnam and Laos, on the Asian continent. The animal has pointed horns and resembles a deer.
It was first identified in 1990 and since then there have only been 4 confirmed sightings of members of this species.
3. Sumatran rhino
This is the smallest of all rhinos. According to WWF, there are only 80 of these animals in the entire world. One factor that may influence this account is that they live in small, reclusive groups in nature.

4. Bahian Entufado
Brazilian representative on the list, this small black bird is native to Atlantic forest, one of the most devastated biomes in our country.
This meant that the bird was last sighted in 2019. Since then, it has remained missing and may have been extinct. The last official data, from 2011, reported 10 to 15 animals of the species alive.
5. Amur leopard
Similar in appearance to our jaguar, the Amur leopard has suffered for decades from illegal hunting in its habitat. Currently, it is believed that there are 75 specimens alive in nature, and they are at serious risk of extinction.
6. Red Wolf
In 1980, the red wolf was officially considered extinct. However, about two decades later it was artificially reintroduced into forests. The most recent studies indicate that the current population of this species is no more than 20 individuals.
These animals prove that human action can be devastating to nature, leading several species to extinction. Hence, the need arises to discuss ways to reduce our impact on the environment.
