Thus, last Monday, the 18th, the Spring Meetings began, an event organized by the Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which will have several speeches by distinguished guests until the 24th of April. In view of this, the first discussion to be guided was the issue of public or private digital money. The managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, and the president of the Central Bank of Brazil, Roberto Campos Neto, helped to debate this issue.

It is also important to highlight the creation of Real Digital, with plans to launch a pilot in 2022, in CBDC format. “When we talk about crypto assets, I believe people focus a lot on the assets themselves, but the 'beauty' is in the network being created. There are protocols that reduce costs for banks, are faster, auditable, transparent, and allow tracking things that we cannot currently do,” said Campos at the event.

In addition, the president of BC also spoke about Real Digital, emphasizing that the implementation of this modality would have to have five basic characteristics for the population. “About what is needed in this cross-border solution, and actually what people look at and demand for cryptocurrencies, the people need something with five characteristics, which is fast, cheap, secure, transparent and open, which are what people want”, highlights.
