In 12 months, airline tickets ended up rising 89%, as shown by the preview of inflation. In this sense, the main explanation for this increase is linked to the increase in fuel prices, without a doubt.
In fact, aircraft kerosene ended up becoming more expensive and, consequently, reflected in airline ticket prices. Thus, according to the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), kerosene rose by around 48.7% from January 1st to May 1st.

In addition, still in agreement with the Association, this fuel value obtained an accumulation of approximately 92% last year. Therefore, another factor that influenced this dynamic was the conflict in Eastern Europe between Russia and Ukraine, which directly impacted costs airline companies, with pressure from the price of a barrel of oil, causing the rise in prices of various inputs and, among them, the airline tickets.
In view of this, Eduardo Grübler, variable income manager at Warren Asset, listed two other reasons that explain the rise in prices: weakened supply and above-standard demand. In this way, Grübler states that “companies have not returned to the pre-pandemic pace”, emphasizing that costs “are impacted by external factors, such as the exchange rate of the dollar against the real, which indexes more than half of the costs of the sector".
Thus, it is clear that these various dynamics have completely affected the price of products worldwide, making it more difficult to purchase airline tickets.
