Reportedly, testing for the release included a "small number of developers". Therefore, so far, one of the most listened to music platforms in the world, Spotify, will be part of this project. With the update, users will have more payment options available, such as purchasing game items or streaming service subscriptions. The test follows the same payment flexibility implemented in the South Korean Play Store at the end of 2021, based on local legislation.
How will the new payment feature work?
Music app Spotify, which was chosen to start testing third-party payment systems on the Play Store, stressed that the change aims to help users have more freedom to sign up and make purchases using the payment option of their choice directly on the app.
However, the pilot should start with a few carefully selected markets, with room for expansion based on user feedback. The companies did not say which countries will be the first to receive the resources, nor did they provide an exact date for the start of the tests. Another thing that is not clear is the number of developers that will be able to use their own payment systems in Android applications during the first phase of the project.
