solve the challenge
Lenstore, an online optics store in the UK, has launched a challenge for its customers to test their perception skills. Check out this optical illusion below:
Then they asked the following question: How many different colored eyes do you see in the image above?
The image has 20 eyes, 4 rows with 5 columns. In the first line, you can see 5 different colors. Below it, there are 3 more lines with a covering on top that boggles the mind and makes you have to think outside the box to solve the problem.
This image works with a type of illusion called Munker-White. This is a method that basically changes the colors of shapes and lines to manipulate the perception of those who are looking at the image. In this illusion, we visualize the shapes in more detail, leaving aside the details of the colors themselves. The tendency is for you to count a number of colors far above the correct total.
Psychologist Michael White, responsible for creating this optical illusion, studied how to superimpose lines in black and white, with the aim of changing our perception of how light or dark the shape is really.
According to Lenstore, to make it easier to answer the challenge, just bring your eyes closer to the image, as the illusion gets weaker the closer you get to it. This happens because the eyes have an easier time distinguishing the borders between the lines and the shape behind it. To do this, you can use the “Zoom” tool on your electronic device or use a magnifying glass to help increase the size of the image.
So, did you manage to solve the challenge? Think outside the box, bring the screen closer and exercise your mind, thus testing your cognitive and perceptual skills! Share with your friends or family so they can be a part of this experience too!
