Registration for the 14th Brazilian Public Schools Mathematics Olympiad (Obmep) is now open. Educational institutions have until 23:59 on Monday, April 2nd, to register their students in the competition.
Register your school on Obmep
Participation in the 14th Obmep is free and includes students from the 6th to the 9th grade of elementary school and three years of high school. As in 2017, the 2018 edition will accept the participation of students from private schools, increasing the number of participants in the event.
The expectation of the Pure and Applied Mathematics Institute (Impa), organizer of the competition, is that this edition will break a record number of participants.
The Obmep
The first phase of Obmep will be held on June 5th. Those classified in this stage will participate in the following tests on September 15th. The tests address complex issues from different areas of Mathematics, requiring students to interpret and use logical reasoning to solve problems.
The 14th Obmep winners will be announced on November 21st. The top three places in each category will win gold, silver and bronze medals. Participants who are not on the podium but who perform well in the tests will earn mention honorable and offering a scholarship at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
6,500 scientific initiation scholarships will be made available, in the junior modality, to students who have the best performances by Obmep. For one year, the students will receive a monthly allowance of R$100 and will visit universities and federal institutes, with 4-hour classes for solving mathematical problems.
