Explosive sounds directly affect the hearing of pets, as animals have hearing with greater sensitivity. Therefore, during fireworks, pets seek to hide somewhere to ease the moment of tension.
The Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine pointed out that noises above 60 decibels, such as a conversation between people who speak loudly, can be enough for pets to feel stress and get psychological shaken up.

In the face of the strongest sounds, such as thunder or fireworks, pets can be bewildered and lose control of themselves. There are high chances of running away from home, even unintentionally, or even suffering a heart attack because of the noise.
Photographer Catarina Furtado, like a pet mother, recognizes the harm that fireworks can cause in cats and dogs and pointed out that she avoids leaving the house when there is a possibility of setting off fireworks.
“He was trying to get into the house, so he scratched the door and, in that scratching the door, he hurt his paw. When I arrived, he was all bloody because he was trying to get into the house. Then, from that moment on, I decided not to go out anymore, because I wasn't going to leave the pet in pain, for my pleasure in leaving home”, he pointed out the tragic experience he had with the pet.
After the traumatic experience with her pet, the photographer recommended what she has been practicing since then: “it's not about picking up, holding the animal, hugging, kissing the animal. No, you give him comfort, you give him a place to feel safe. That place could be a bedroom, it could be under the bed, it could be inside a bathroom, it could be a bed, tighter, more closed places.”
Recommendations on festive dates
Kellen Oliveira, a veterinarian, recommended that the sounds of fireworks need to be muffled for pets. If the noise cannot be muffled, it is important to leave the pet at ease.
The doctor points out that the main recommendation is to leave the animal in contact with noise from an early age. “So, when they are used to this type of noise at this stage, which is from three weeks to three months of life, they have a greater tolerance for these noises, during the end of the year festivities, the World Cup, so they suffer less”, she pointed.
