Jamie Connolly, a 35-year-old British man, was just 1.24m tall as a teenager. However, after suffering a series of seizures at the age of 16, he discovered that he had to have surgery to remove a tumor in his brain. What he didn't expect, with the surgery, was to grow more than 40 cm over the years. From a boy “too small for his age”, Jamie is now 1.70 m and works in mental health.

The seizure that Jamie suffered at age 16 revealed the growth of a tumor in his brain, responsible for preventing him from developing his height.
After the tumor was discovered, Jamie's first surgery took place in 2004. At the time, the result could already be seen in the boy's height, with growth of 4.5 cm.
However, Jamie didn't just have surgery. Over the years, the Briton has undergone 3 procedures to remove the tumor, which has caused changes in his vision. Today, Jamie can see with the help of glasses.
Connolly says that it is not possible to remove the entire tumor, because it could cause a series of paralysis.
Jamie's initiative to tell this chapter of his life is part of the events related to Brain Tumor Awareness Month, which takes place every March in the United Kingdom.
The boy believes it is important to share his journey, because, at age 16, he had no idea that a tumor with slow growth took place in his brain and impacted important areas of his life, such as his own growth.
Brain tumor signs
Brain tumor requires medical diagnosis to be identified. However, some symptoms may indicate that something is not right.
Typically, the person may experience severe headaches, muscle aches, weakness in arms and legs, nausea, vomiting, tingling, and mental confusion.
As with Jamie, seizures, loss of balance, concentration and hearing can also happen.
