Cancer vaccine shows positive and encouraging signs; Know more!

Recent studies show that a vaccine created to fight brain cancer could be the solution and the beginning of a revolution in the treatment and prevention of this illness. A team of researchers and doctors managed to obtain positive responses to this vaccine in a test carried out with cancer cells. Follow the progress.

The Doctor. Khalid Shah works at Brigham and Women’s Hospital located in Boston. He reported: "Our team pursued a simple idea: take cancer cells and turn them into cancer killers." Allied to genetic engineering, researchers are reusing cancer cells to develop a formula that kills tumor cells and stimulates the patient's immune system.

According to Shah, the goal would be for the cancer vaccine to "destroy primary tumors and prevent cancer".

How does the cancer vaccine work in practice?

The treatment is carried out in a double action, which involves a gene editing tool called CRISP-CAS9, which has the function of acting as a pair of molecular scissors. This tool works by cutting the

DNA at specific locations and deleted sections of code to replace them with alternative sequencing.

The experiments are being carried out on mice that had a deadlier form of brain cancer. Glioblastoma and the reuse of cancer cells had a promising result.

The experiment is being considered so far as safe and effective in rodents, which is already a big step towards starting the treatment for humans. The breakthrough raises hopes of "editing" DNA in the brain with a vaccine. That way, no tissue will need to be removed.

“Our goal is to take an innovative but translatable approach so that we can develop a vaccine cancer-killing therapeutics that will ultimately have a lasting impact on medicine," said Dr. Shah.

You studies indicate a great possibility that this vaccine will be a reality in a short time. More importantly, there are chances that it can not only be used in brain cancer but also in other types.
