Google warns about lack of technological workforce in Brazil

The technology market in Brazil faces a worrying scenario, at least according to a Google study. According to the survey, by 2025 the country may have a deficit of 530,000 information technology (IT) professionals.

This talent shortage is the result of growing demand and the lack of experienced profiles in the sector, representing an obstacle to economic development.

According to the report, between 2021 and 2025, approximately 53,000 IT professionals will be trained, however, the demand will be 800,000.

This disparity affects the Brazilian economy, placing the country as the third in the G20 in wasted opportunities to increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) due to lack of digital skills.

Challenge for startups

Startups also face challenges, as 92% of them report that a shortage of IT professionals negatively impacts their business. To understand the causes of this deficit, Google consulted startups, executives and professionals in the field.

From this, some plausible reasons were identified, such as: the lack of diversity and barriers for people black women and women in the sector, geographic limitations for regions outside the central axis of the country, difficulties in insertion in job market and high school deficiencies related to logical thinking.

Areas with the greatest talent deficit

In view of this panorama, the study highlights areas with a greater deficit of talent that also represent opportunities for action. They are: information security, artificial intelligence, cloud architecture and IT automation organization.
