Relationship between meditation and chronic pain

Medical researchers at the University of California designed a study to assess how the practice of meditation, mindfulness or mindfulness impact brain activity and the way the body perceives pain.

O studydemonstrated that meditation makes a person more relaxed and with less control over the areas of the brain that cause pain. In this way, it is as if the practice cuts off the communication between the areas of the brain that are responsible for bringing about the sensation of pain and the area that exercises self-perception.

In research carried out with a group of 40 people exposed to intense pain, it was seen that those who practiced meditation and mindfulness showed a decrease in pain intensity reduced by 32% while unpleasant pain dropped by 32% 33%.

Participants had their brains scanned before and after exposure to meditative activities. From this finding, an important discovery begins to reduce the pain of people with diseases patients who look for alternative treatments that can fight against drugs that are too strong for the relief of pains.

You are not what you feel

In the practice of meditation and mindfulness, it is often said that the individual is not his experiences, that is, the person cannot be reduced to traumas, pains or even happiness.

Thus, the individual learns to disconnect thoughts, emotions and feelings from the ego or from what they think about. themselves, which helps to reduce the perception of pain, suffering and frustration caused by the constant presence of pain.

The idea is to shift the perception of the individual as someone sick to another, healthier and disconnected reference from what they feel. The good thing about meditation and mindfulness practice is that it can be done for free and from anywhere. Therefore, it is accessible to everyone.
