Specifically through Decree No. 100,000, on January 11, 1991, the updating and simplification of the rules for writing official texts, which were later presented in the Writing Manual of the Presidency of the Republic.
Pronouns treatment
Treatment pronouns designate the respectful way of addressing civil, military and ecclesiastical authorities. Using an appropriate treatment pronoun means treating a hierarchical superior with deference and distinction. Some examples:
Your Excellency – treatment used in communications to State authorities (civil, judicial or military). The call to the Heads of Power is Your Excellency, followed by the position he represents.
Your Eminence – used in communications to cardinals, the corresponding vocative being: Most Eminent Lord Cardinal.
Your Magnificence - employed in communications to university rectors. The vocative is Magnificent Rector.
The use of “Digníssimo” (DD) was abolished because it is a pronoun that only reinforces the dignity of someone who holds a public office, and its repetition is not necessary.
