Meaning of Anointing (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Anoint is a transitive verb that means the action of anointing with oil or applying oily and aromatic substances.

In the figurative sense to anoint is to confer power or dignity on one they deem worthy of such an honor.

In religious practice, anoint is to apply consecrated oils as part of a ritual, in order to exert influence spiritual with the purpose of blessing, in people, temples, material goods or in everything that is desired to sanctify, heal or protect.

Anointing is the effect of anointing or anointing. The ritual of “Anointing of the Sick” or “Holy Anointing” or the “Last Sacrament”, administered by a priest aims to comfort the sick and forgive their sins in the moment before their death.
