Discover the Medieval Guide, a platform for studies on the Middle Ages

The Medieval Guide has a new version, made by the University of São Paulo (USP), in partnership with the Laboratory of Medieval Studies (LEME) and funded by the National Council for Scientific Development and Technological (CNPq).

The project has a more dynamic visual structure and aims to be a source of scientific studies. As the name explains, the material corresponds to the historical period of the Middle Ages, from the 5th to the 15th century.

In an interview with Guia do Estudante, Thiago Ribeiro, postdoctoral researcher, explains the meaning of the project. “You start the survey with a question. By doing this, you can search the timeline, the map, the categories and ask other questions that you might not even have thought of before.”

The Medieval Guide is like other search platforms, you look for a topic and find others related to your search. In addition, the way to see information on the map makes the work easier, as there is a geographic reference mechanism.

General categories can also be found in the search, such as: economics, philosophy, culture and politics. Anyone looking for the platform is usually doing scientific research or is a postdoctoral fellow.

“We want to catalog the entire production of scientific knowledge produced not only in Brazil, but throughout Latin America. And we are not restricting ourselves to written elements. Books and articles, of course, are the largest in number because they are the most publicized, but we want to include the other media formats”, says Ribeiro.

Quality information

With the era of fake news, the Medieval Guide plays a fundamental role in bringing accurate and filtered information to students. “We made the point that the scientific contents indexed in the Guide all come from universities. This creates reliability in the information”, concludes Ribeiro.
