Fraternity is a term from latin frater, which means "brother". For this reason, fraternity means kinship between brothers. Universal brotherhood designates the good relationship among men, in which feelings of affection typical of blood brothers develop.
Fraternity is the bond of union between men, founded on respect for the dignity of the human person and equal rights among all human beings.
School fraternity is strongly developed among students from American universities. It is similar to an association in which members get together to organize parties and other events that allow students to socialize. Friendship, fellowship, camaraderie and other principles are practiced among the members.
Scouting is also a movement that promotes brotherhood. Through the practice of teamwork, respect for human beings, love for animals and nature, the young participants become an example of leadership, responsibility, altruism and fraternity.
As a philosophical concept, fraternity is linked to the ideals promoted by the French Revolution in 1789, based on the search for freedom, equality and fraternity.
Fraternity Campaign
The Fraternity Campaign (CF) is a solidarity movement promoted annually by the Catholic Church in Brazil. The theme of the FC for the year 2012 is “Fraternity and Public Health”. The objective of the campaigns is the reflection of the population on some problematic themes in the Brazilian social reality. The date set for the announcement of the campaign theme is Ash Wednesday.
In previous years, the FC addressed themes such as: hunger (1985), equality between men and women (1990), unemployment (1999), drugs (2001), life on the planet (2011).
