Affective abandonment is when omission of emotional care occurs, psychic, educational neglect and moral omission suffered by children or adolescents on the part of their parents or guardians.
Unlike what many people think, emotional abandonment does not cover the economic part, such as the payment of child support.
This type of carelessness can occur due to lack of attention, affection, care, love, leisure and even the child or adolescent's deprivation of contact with one of their parents.
Symptoms and consequences of affective abandonment
The consequences of emotional abandonment, especially in children, can cause trauma and major problems both throughout childhood and adulthood. Some of the symptoms:

- difficulties in interpersonal relationships;
- emotional instability;
- low academic performance;
- aggressiveness;
- extreme shyness;
- anxiety;
- psychological and emotional illnesses;
- syndromes such as panic.
Affective abandonment is dangerous, according to some psychologists, because it cannot be replaced, unlike monetary abandonment. Therefore, guardians responsible for children and adolescents have a duty to provide full psychological and emotional assistance to their children.
Brazilian legislation against emotional abandonment
Any child or adolescent, under the age of 18, who feels morally and emotionally neglected for part of the father, mother or main guardian, has full support and freedom to ask for support from the judiciary Brazilian.
In addition to having awareness-raising practices for parents who neglect their children, the Human Rights Commission approved the Project of Senate Law 700\2007 that claims compensation for damages by parents who morally and emotionally abandoned their parents. sons.
Therefore, if emotional abandonment occurs in relation to a minor child, the legal guardian can file an action against the other party, requesting their affective obligations.
Indemnity for emotional abandonment
The award may vary from judge to judge, as does the decision to pay the award. Some judges explain that the damage caused by one of the parents does not constitute moral damage, not being considered an unlawful act, that is, there is no possibility of repairing the damage.
Others, on the contrary, admit compensation, as emotional abandonment can cause serious trauma or suffering for those who are neglected.
