Located in South America, Argentina has a territorial extension of 2,766,889 square kilometers and population of 40,276,376 inhabitants, with a demographic density (relative population) of 14.5 inhabitants per kilometer square. The country has the third largest South American population contingent, second only to Brazil and Colombia.
The first inhabitants of the area that currently corresponds to Argentina were the Querandis, Charruas, Quinchua and Guaraní. In 1516, however, Spanish settlers, led by Juan Diaz de Solís, landed on the Rio de la Plata.
The colonization process, allied to the intense migratory flow of Italians and Spaniards, mainly between the end of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, contributed to an extraordinary increase in the white population in the parents. Currently, the ethnic composition of the Argentine population is as follows: Southern Europeans 85%, Euramerindians 7%, Amerindians 0.4%, others 7.6%. Another consequence of colonization is the language, Spanish, however, it was renamed Castilian by the Argentines.
The national population totals 40,276,376 inhabitants, comprising 19,754,484 men and 20,251,892 women. Most reside in urban areas (92%) and environmental sanitation services are provided to 90% of households. Bueno Aires, the country's capital, is home to a third of the national population: 13 million inhabitants.

Christianity is predominant among Argentines: 92% (Catholics 89%, Protestants 2%, another 1%). The population that does not have a religion corresponds to 3%; atheism represents 1%, other religions (mainly Judaism) are followed by 4% of Argentines. The country's Jewish community is one of the largest in the world, in Buenos Aires there are more than 50 synagogues (place of worship for Jews).
With a high Human Development Index (HDI) - 0.775, Argentina has one of the best quality of life standards in Latin America. Among the positive socioeconomic factors are:
The life expectancy of Argentines is high: 75.3 years;
Only 2.4% of Argentines are illiterate;
The infant mortality rate is 13 deaths per thousand live births;
Income per capita is 6,040 dollars.
