Elizabeth Alexandra Mary he was born in Mayfair, a borough of London, on April 21, 1926. her father was AlbertFrederickArthurGeorge, better known as the Duke of York, and his mother was Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, known as the Duchess of York. At the time of Elizabeth's birth, the King of the United Kingdom was George V.

Elizabeth's father was the second son of George V, her uncle Edward Albert being the eldest son of the King. Therefore, by the time she was born, Elizabeth became third in line to the British throne. Her chances of becoming queen were not very encouraging, so her birth was little reflected.

That's because if Edward had children, they would have preference for the throne, and if he didn't have them and the father of Elizabeth, George, in turn, had a male child, he would also have the preference before her. In the UK, there was a firstborn male preference in relation to female heirs.

As such, Elizabeth grew up knowing that occupying the throne was possible, but not very likely. She received a consistent education, being tutored by Marion Crawford, who also took care of her sister Margaret's education.

reign of George VI

In January 1936, his grandfather, King George V, died. Succession to the throne then passed to his eldest son, crowned as Edward VIII. Edward VIII's reign was very short because he decided to abdicate the British throne for personal reasons. He had a relationship with Wallis Simpson, a divorced American.

Edward VIII's decision to marry Simpson created a serious problem in the British monarchy. English society at the time was extremely conservative, and marrying a divorced woman was not well regarded. Realizing that problems of all sorts would arise if he married her, Edward VIII decided to abdicate her.

Thus, in December 1936, the Elizabeth's father took the throne as Jorge VI. This made Elizabeth the immediate successor should her father die or abdicate the throne. As George VI had no male children, Elizabeth continued as direct heiress. At that time she was almost 11 years old.
