Registration for the 13th Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad (OBMEP 2017) is now open. For the first time, the competition allows the participation of students from private schools.
Students from the 6th to 9th grade of elementary school and all grades of high school from public and private schools can participate in the OBMEP 2017. Participants are divided into three levels:
Level 1 – students in the 6th or 7th year of elementary school.
Level 2 – students in the 8th or 9th grade of elementary school.
Level 3 – students from any year of high school.
Registrations
Registration for the OBMEP 2017 must be made by schools until March 31, on the website www.obmep.org.br. When enrolling, the school must indicate only the total number of students enrolled at each level, and nominal enrollment of students is not required.
Public schools do not have to pay an application fee. Private schools have to pay a minimum fee of R$100, which corresponds to the enrollment of up to 25 students. If a higher number of students enrolls, the amount of R$4 per student is added.

Olympics
The Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad comprises two qualifying and eliminatory stages. The first phase will take place at the school, on June 6th, with 20 objective questions. The best classified students within the space limit will proceed to the second phase.
On August 11th, the classifieds for the second phase will be known with the respective venues. The stage will be held on September 16th.
Awards
Winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals depending on the final classification. Participants who do not earn a medal will receive certificates of honorable mention.
The 6,500 best students who will be enrolled in public schools in 2018 will be able to participate in the Junior Scientific Initiation Program (PIC Jr -OBMEP). Participation in the PIC includes receiving a Jr Scientific Initiation scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
The 975 best students from private schools who will attend primary or secondary education in 2018 will be able to participate in the PIC Jr – OBMEP as listeners.
