Problems involving fractional numbers

The way we solve a problem situation is always the same, what can be different is the resolution strategy, as each one of them involves a different content.
Taking into account the mathematical problems involving fractional numbers, we can use as a strategy in its resolution, the construction of figures that represent the whole or parts of them (fraction).
See the example problem situation involving fractional numbers.
A rectangular pool occupies 2/15 of a 300 m leisure area.2. How many square meters is the remaining part of the leisure area?

Resolution:
Consider the rectangle below to be the complete play area.

To represent 2/15 (area occupied by the pool) in the rectangular region that is representing the area of leisure, just divide this rectangle into 15 equal parts and consider only two as being occupied by the pool.

It was said in the statement that the total area is 300m², therefore, the area that the pool occupies will be:
 2 of 300 = 300:15 x2 = 40m2. Thus, each 1/15 of the land corresponds to 20m².

15
Looking at the figure above, we can see that the fraction that will correspond to the remaining part of the leisure area is 13/15, thus, to find out how much this represents in square meters, just multiply 20 by 13, which will be equal to 260m2 of remaining area.

Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)
