Shalom is a word of Hebrew origin and literally means "peace", in the Portuguese translation.
This is a term widely used among Jews, mainly as a form of greeting or farewell. In terms of comparison, the Shalom can be used in the same way as “hello”, “good morning” or “goodbye”, for example.
The word Shalom it represents a wish for health, harmony and peace for the one or those to whom the fulfillment is addressed.
Shalom in the Bible
In several biblical passages the word Shalom with the meaning of peace and desire for well-being among people or nations. For example, "Shalom Aleichem", a greeting often used by Jesus and which means "peace be with you". "Shalom Aleichem" is also the name of a song sung in celebrations of the Shabbat.
Shabbat, in turn, means "Saturday". This is considered a weekly rest day in Judaism that begins with sunset on Friday and ends after sunset on Saturday. On this day the expression "Shabbat Shalom" as a greeting among the Jews.
