apocalypse in the bible
In the bible, the word apocalypse is used as a synonym for Armageddon, a biblical event characterized by the final struggle between God, earthly sinners and the devil.
A topic often related to Revelation is the rapture of the Church. The Bible states in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 that whoever has received Jesus as his savior will be lifted up into the clouds, where he will meet God.
However, depending on Christian doctrine, the interpretation of what the apocalyptic events will be varies. For example, for Catholics the idea of the Rapture is not accepted, but the Second Coming of Christ is. In short, this would mean that the faithful would not be taken to Paradise before the Divine Judgment, but would remain on Earth during that event.
