Last Wednesday, September 20th, the Amazon announced the latest version of its voice assistant, Alexa, powered by a new broad language model (LLM).
The new Alexa promises to revolutionize interaction with smart devices, offering a deeper understanding of natural language and a more accurate response to user requests.

Alexa with AI
According to Dave Limp, senior vice president of services and devices at Amazon, Alexa's new LLM represents a huge leap forward over current technologies.
Limp explained that the new alexa is able to understand complete sentences and interpret the context of the conversation more effectively. Furthermore, the assistant is capable of executing multiple requests with a single command, simplifying the user experience.
However, Amazon is taking cautious steps when launching the new Alexa. This follows issues faced with other AI technologies such as Bard and Bing with ChatGPT.
Initially, the assistant will only be available to users in the United States, as part of a gradual testing program over the coming months.
Main changes
One of the main features of the new Alexa is its ability to understand more natural commands. Users no longer need to be extremely specific in their requests.
Now, you can say things like “Alexa, I’m cold,” and the virtual assistant will automatically adjust the thermostat temperature, demonstrating a deeper understanding of users' needs.
The new Alexa is also capable of automatically recognizing the devices present in the user's home and understanding commands such as “Alexa, turn on the new lamp”, eliminating ambiguities.
Another exciting new feature is the new Alexa's ability to respond to multiple commands simultaneously. This allows you to create routines in real time by voice, without the need for programming through the app.
While this functionality is initially only available on some device types, Amazon plans to expand it to include more items in the future.
Additionally, the technology giant is inviting developers to create cognitive functions for the new Alexa, using two new tools: Dynamic Control and Action Control. This allows you to customize the use of the assistant.
It is worth noting that, in the future, Amazon is considering the possibility of charging for Alexa services with AI, especially if the assistant continues to improve home automation and simplify the lives of users.
So far, there is no official launch date for the new Alexa in the US, but it is certain that users of Amazon Echo devices will be able to participate in the tests as soon as they are available.
