The leadership position represents a significant advance for USP, which was in second or third place in recent years. Last year, Chile's PUC took first place, but now USP has regained the top spot.
Ranking of the best Latin universities
The ranking evaluated 430 universities from 25 countries across the world. Latin America and the Caribbean, and Brazil stood out with 13 institutions among the 50 best in the region.
It is important to highlight that 12 of these institutions are public, a fact that demonstrates the excellence of free higher education in the country.
For the rector of USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, this achievement is an indication that the university is on the right path to becoming a world-class institution.
He emphasized that the ranking takes into account not only the number of scientific articles, but also factors such as employability, employer recognition and social impact, areas in which USP has been startled.
Other universities in São Paulo also stood out, such as the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), occupying third place, and the State University of São Paulo (Unesp), in tenth place.
