After all, can humans REALLY survive on Mars? Find it out!

Ever since man began to research about Mars, there have been several theories about the survival of a colony of human beings on the planet. Talks about this possibility are well under way and there are concrete plans to make this happen.

But would we survive on the red planet? More than that, how long would we stay alive there? Scientists created a simulation to try to answer these and other questions. Check it out below!

To carry out this simulation, the researchers took into account a period of 28 years of a fictitious colony in Mars. It was necessary to try to define how many people would be necessary for humans to live longer, what would be the ideal personalities and other details.

In addition, it was taken into account that the colony was already pre-established, with food, electricity, air and water available. In that study, the colony of humans would also receive regular supplies from Earth.

They also took into account some key personalities for this simulation: the pleasant ones (low competitiveness and little aggressiveness); the social ones (extroverted and communicative); the reactive ones (more competitive); those who follow routine; and the neurotic (very competitive, aggressive and can't handle boredom).

As in a "The Sims"in real life, subjects had a life bar, which tracked how long they would live.

Result: could we live on Mars?

The first concrete result of the study is that we could even live on Mars, but it would take at least 22 people to work. In this way, the colony would be able to sustain itself at all possible points.

Furthermore, people with a neurotic personality would not survive. It was observed that the colony prospered less with these humans.

“Martians with neurotic psychology and high coping skills benefit less from interacting with others,” reads the study. “They are penalized more if they have a low coping capacity”, he continues.

The article ends by stating that this type of person can drive population decline. With fewer neurotics, one can “produce a stable settlement”.
