The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) took a measure temporarily prohibiting the sale of a toothpaste widely appreciated by Brazilians.
The restriction, however, does not affect the entire product line, but focuses on certain batches that were identified as irregular due to distribution problems.

Anvisa's decision was the result of a mistake during the manufacturing process. Specifically, a batch of Sensodyne Rapid Relief toothpaste, manufactured by the renowned company Glaxosmithkline (GSK) Brazil, was put on the docket.
The case in question occurred in 2014, when Anvisa issued a resolution prohibiting the sale of lot TB0165V of Sensodyne Rapid Relief.

post incident
The measure aimed to ensure that consumers were not exposed to products that did not comply with quality and safety standards.
The problem identified involved an intersection between lots of Sensodyne Rapid Relief and Sensodyne Pro Enamel products, thus compromising the quality and consistency of the toothpastes.
Faced with this scenario, GSK, the manufacturer of the products, acted promptly to resolve the situation and not put users' health at risk.
The company withdrew the problematic batches from supermarket shelves where they had been distributed and launched a voluntary recall to recall products that were already in circulation.
It is important to point out that, as assured by GSK, the products available on the market at the time of the ban did not represent a significant risk to the health of consumers.
In addition, the company has taken corrective measures to prevent future quality deviations and reinforced its ongoing commitment to high quality and safety standards.
Lesson learned
Currently, the situation has been brought under control and the Sensodyne brand, including its toothpastes and other oral hygiene, is already on the shelves of supermarkets and pharmacies.
This incident highlights the importance of close scrutiny by regulatory authorities and even companies themselves.
It is essential to ensure that the products placed on the market meet the highest quality standards, thus protecting the health and well-being of consumers.
