Dog fitness trackers, in general, rely on accelerometers in combination with GPS sensors. However, the approach chosen by Invoxia is different.

How it works?

Monitoring is done using miniaturized, low-power radar sensors and deep neural networks. In this way, the electronic device can measure the heart and respiratory rates of the animal.

In addition, the collar is also able to track and store information about daily activities such as walking and barking, for example. Invoxia relied on veterinary cardiologists to assist in the development of the device.

The object stands out in the market for two reasons: first, for using a conventional GPS tracker combined with a non-invasive way of measuring the vital signs of dogs. The second reason is that the device connection supports Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and LTE-M.

Another positive aspect is that the smart collar has escape alerts and a built-in buzzer. This is especially relevant for dogs that often run away from home or in case of theft. If the animal exceeds the perimeter established in the settings, an alert will be issued immediately.

This innovation could be of great help in further research regarding correlations between signals vital signs and diseases in dogs, since the collar allows the collection of an expressive amount of data biometrics.

Which dogs can use?

Initially, the novelty of Invoxia is indicated only for medium to large dogs. This is because, so far, it has not been possible to miniaturize radar technology to a size that is light and comfortable enough for smaller animals.

The collar is recommended for dogs with heart disease that need home care with continuous monitoring. However, even in visually healthy animals, the device is capable of identifying signs indicative of disease.

How much does it cost?

After the announcement at CES 2022, which is the largest technology fair in the world, Invoxia reported that the collar should be commercially available from the summer of 2022. The value should be around US$ 99 (R$ 561) for the necklace. To get the GPS features you will still need to purchase a monthly subscription worth US$ 12.99 (R$ 73).
