Accident assistance and its rules
Accidents at work are more common than we imagine, and to ensure that the worker is insured when the unforeseen happens, the accident benefit was created, a benefit paid by the INSS.
Many times the employee needs to leave his job or is moved to perform another function within the company. The compensation for the accident allowance consists of an amount paid monthly and that does not prevent the employee from continuing to receive his normal salary.
However, like any other social security benefit in the country, there are requirements to be met. Therefore, the worker needs to undergo an evaluation by a doctor who has an association with the INSS to analyze whether there has really been a reduction in the ability to carry out the work activity. If so, the doctor provides the report and the worker is able to become a beneficiary of the assistance.
Furthermore, not all employees can access accident aid, only domestic workers, casual workers, special insured persons and urban or rural employees.
Among the people who are not entitled to the benefit are individual taxpayers and those who do not perform any activity with remuneration and are not obliged to pay the INSS.
How to apply for accident assistance
To apply for the benefit is very simple. Just download the My INSS application or access the website of the responsible body and click on the “Agendamento/Application” option.
Then fill out the application and wait for the summons at one of the INSS agencies. On the scheduled day and time, just show up at the location with a document with a photo (such as an ID), your Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF) and the medical reports confirming the accident.
If you cannot attend for some reason, issue a power of attorney and deliver it to a trusted person together with your documents.
