Airbus sells over 500 aircraft to a single Indian company

One of the world's largest airlines, India's IndiGo has market share with an order for 500 A320 Family aircraft. This order is the largest single purchase agreement in aviation history.

This aircraft increase agreement guarantees a total number of 1,330 units of airbusfor IndiGo, making it the planemaker's largest customer worldwide.

The contract was signed by the most important names of the companies, such as the Managing Director, President and CEO of both companies, during the Paris Air Show 2023.

The announcement of the historic purchase, made this Monday (19), also set the purchase price for each aircraft at approximately US$ 110.6 million (something around 527 million reais).

What did those responsible for the purchase say?

According to Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, the idea with the purchase of these 1,000 aircraft is to leverage the company's economic growth in the coming years.

So, in addition to being the preferred airline in India, they aim to become globally famous and beloved for their quality service.

In addition, Christian Scheres, head of Airbus, continues his speech assuring that this investment in the Family A320 is an important step for this relationship with IndiGo, as well as ensuring more fame and strength for all to the aircraftof brand.

The airline has its headquarters in New Delhi and is rapidly growing across the world. Since acquiring its first aircraft from the A320 Family, the A320neo, in March 2016, it has never stopped increasing its portfolio, becoming one of the largest fleets of this model in the world, with 264 aircraft.

Its first order for Airbus was 100 A320 aircraft in 2005. Then it bought 180 more in 2011, including the neo. Then, in 2019, the order jumped to 300 aircraft. Now, its portfolio already has 1,300 aircraft to operate across the planet.
