Josh Buster was at a local convenience store when he decided to do a "little treat". To do so, he asked for five “Mega Millions” tickets, in which the drawing of numbers would take place on April 15, a Friday. However, the clerk ended up printing one number by accident, and asked Buster if he could print four more on a separate ticket.
The lucky American agreed, and it looks like the stars aligned for him from that moment on. According to him, the feeling that the employee's mistake changed the numbers he would have gotten if he had put them all at once is quite strong. Including, this totally changed the chef's perspective, which he believed to be very unlucky.
Prize withdrawal day
After scanning the tickets into the lottery app before going to work the Monday after the draw, Josh claimed his prize. It was a mixture of elation and surprise as he rushed home in disbelief after seeing the results. After all, the odds of winning $1 million on this type of bet are 1 in 12,607,306.
That was the second million-dollar bet in the state of Iowa in 2022, behind a pair that secured $2 million in New Hampton in January. However, he is not expected to receive the full amount, as the prize must go through state and federal withholdings, leaving Buster with a total of $700,000.
He intends to use the money to pay off his car and the mortgage on his mother's house, and save the rest for retirement. Furthermore, he said that the award will take the worries out of his life, especially financial ones.
