Due to the commemorative dates at the end of the year, the consumption of new products normally tends to be higher in Brazilian homes. Christmas and New Year are important occasions, where family and friends are pleased to give gifts to each other.
According to the CNC (National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism), the market, mainly in the retail sector, should hire around 109.4 thousand temporary workers to meet the high demand on these festive dates.

Understand the reasons for the increase in the hiring of temporary workers this year
In previous years, 2020 and 2021, there was a drop of -2.7% and -2.1% in hiring, respectively. However, in 2022, the expectation is for an increase of 2.1%.
The last largest number of hires was registered in 2013, with 115.5 thousand temporary vacancies. If the estimate for 2022 is reached, the year 2013 will lose its successful position.
According to CNC economist Fabio Bentes, even if interest rates are still high, there has been a calming down of inflation and also a return to people's movement after the pandemic. These factors have become motivators for retailers.
Even if consumption increases this year, the act of “explosion” is still non-existent, as consumption conditions are still not the most favorable.
Going back to talking about new opportunities, in 2021, for example, retailers hired 97,000 workers for Christmas, while in 2022 there is an estimated growth of 13%. The CNC also stated that the largest number of new workers will be in the hypermarkets and supermarkets (45.53 thousand) and clothing (25.88 thousand) sectors.
Many workers tend to look forward to being hired after this temporary period, as tenure is projected to increase by 11% after Christmas. Last year, this percentage was 15%. All these predictions given by the CNC were based on the seasonal aspects of admission and shutdown of retail trade.
