What causes neck pain?
There are many reasons that can cause neck pain. Among them are: psychological issues, stress, inappropriate postures, muscle spasms, spending hours sitting, prolonged cell phone use, etc. In this way, the pain can last for a short period, but it can also be chronic and continue for a longer time.
Physical therapy is the most common treatment for these pains, and is also good for improving the flexibility and strength of the neck muscles. In that sense, there are some exercises that can be done at home for pain relief.
Exercises to improve neck pain
The following exercises can help with neck pain, as well as being easy and practical to perform. However, it is important to seek appropriate treatment if the pain persists or worsens.
- Slowly turn your neck to one side and hold the pose for 7 seconds. Repeat the same movement on the other side.
- Tilt your neck down and touch your chin to your chest, holding for at least 5 seconds.
- Tilt your neck to the side (towards your shoulders) and hold the position for 5 seconds. Then do the same for the other side.
- Straighten your body to have an upright posture. Next, push your neck forward and bring your shoulders together in alignment to stretch your neck muscles. Hold the position for 5 seconds and gently return to your original position.
