Shopping in Chinese virtual stores is already almost an addiction for many people. In addition to practicality, the price always compensates for that of the product in the in-person stores, since, as it does not have the same taxes, it is much more affordable.
However, the government is studying the possibility of taxing purchases in the main online stores, such as Shopee, Shein and AliExpress. The initiative is part of an action aimed at controlling digital smuggling.

Taxation of purchases
The measure of taxing purchases made in Chinese virtual stores intends to charge directly from the platforms. The goal is for them to pay taxes directly on the purchase, at the same time as the transaction.
Thus, the measure aims to make it difficult to import products without limits. This is because many individuals can buy from other people outside Brazil, without having to pay taxes on the good.
It is a measure favorably viewed by the Federal Revenue, however, which displeases those who usually shop frequently at these stores. Another idea is also to tax all imports made by individuals, regardless of the value.
the reason for the measure
This measure was suggested after the president of Havan, Luciano Hang, went to the authorities claiming that stores like Shopee and AliExpress were creating a digital street vendor.
In this sense, several entities have come together against these digital stores. Among them are the Brazilian Association of Toy Manufacturers (Abrinq), the Brazilian Association of Textile and Apparel (Abit), Brazilian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (Abinee) and the National Association of Manufacturers of Electronic Products (Electros).
The idea is to reduce consumption and control all imports with taxes on products. Thus, it is something aimed at large companies, but not designed for consumers of these platforms.
