The hottest pepper in the world
Peppers are appreciated in many parts of the world, but some of them can be so hot that they exceed the limits of what we can handle. According to the latest edition of Guinness World Records, the Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper in the world.
The parameter used to define this is the Scoville Scale, which is used to measure how hot a pepper is.
The Carolina Reaper reached a record 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units, which is truly surprising given that the average value of peppers is usually 1.6 million Scoville Heat Units.
This is a chili pepper, found in South Carolina, in the United States, and its cross emerged through the species, Habanero and Naga Bhut Jolokia, being a variety of the Capsicum type chinese.
Pepper is so strong that it has even hospitalized some people who ingested it with serious consequences. An example of this is the case of a 15-year-old teenager in 2020, who suffered an acute stroke two days after consuming it.
It is worth saying that the consumption of this pepper is really dangerous, as this teenager was not the first case. Another example occurred in 2018 with a 34-year-old man, who also went to the hospital complaining of severe headaches days after ingesting the pepper. By doing brain scans, the doctor confirmed retractions in her arteries.
In addition to the Carolina Reaper, there were 4 more peppers that achieved surprising levels on the Scoville Scale. Check it out below:
