50 cents coin can be worth up to R$ 700
The 50-cent coin that was produced in 2012 without the zero thanks to a failure in the production process carried out at the Mint had a circulation of 40 million units. However, only 40,000 entered circulation, and today they have an average value of R$ 700 among collectors.
These coins are silver in color and have the figure of the Baron of Rio Branco on the obverse and the inscription 2012 on the reverse side. According to the Central Bank, these coins had no circulation value at the time.
An interesting curiosity about collectible coins is that one of the aspects that make them more valuable to collectors is precisely the failure during the production of the copy. Thus, this is what makes the case of the 50-cent coin minted in 2012 special, which has only the number 5 printed on it.
Other valuable 50 cent coins
There are many other cases of copies sold for considerable value on the collectors' market. This is the case of the coin that became known as the “inverted reverse”, where basically the heads and tails were minted in the same direction. As a rule, the two faces face opposite directions.

For this reason, in an auction that took place in 2014, the trifle of US$ 499,375 was paid for it, which is the equivalent of approximately R$ 2.37 million.
