Applications and properties of the cotton leaf
Ayurveda Medicine, which means “science of life”, was developed in India and is about aligning mental, spiritual and physical health to treat and prevent illness. But what does this have to do with the cotton leaf? Well, according to the oldest health system in the world, which is based on folk medicine – although there are certain benefits documented and passed down by generations that have not yet been scientifically proven - the cotton leaf has the following benefits:
antidysenteric properties
The leaf, which can be used in infusions, can prevent dysentery, that is, inflammation of the intestines resulting in bloody diarrhea, usually caused by bacteria or amoeba.
anti-rheumatic properties
Rheumatism is a designation used to characterize about 200 diseases related to joints, ligaments, skeleton, tendons and/or muscles. Rheumatoid arthritis and arthrosis are the best known and cause intense pain. The cotton sheet can relieve pain and prevent rheumatism.
antibacterial properties
Cotton leaf is used for its antibacterial properties through various treatments and in various forms, either through tea, ointments based on plant extract for treating infected wounds, among others methods.
Anti swelling in legs
Ayurveda medicine calls attention to the use of cotton leaf to promote greater arterial and venous blood circulation, especially in lower regions, more affected by venous insufficiency. Usually ointments based on leaf extract can help with this treatment.
