Some scientists at the University of Edinburgh, located in Scotland, have developed small devices capable of using the energy of the human body in motion to generate electricity. The goal is for these new devices to be used in watches, smart clothes and every wearable component.
These small devices use a technology of piezoelectric materials, which are capable of generating electrical charges when undergoing deformation. The new idea is quite efficient compared to the previous ones, which facilitates its manufacture.
This is a step for the so-called smart watches (smartwatches) to enter a higher level of development, requiring only the continuous movement of their users.
Piezoelectric devices
The new technology used by the researchers is an improvement of the chemistry used in the production of very fine fibers that use a material called PVDF, a substance capable of generating high amounts of electricity when continuous pressure is applied over she.
With that, laboratory tests showed satisfactory results, delivering about 40 microwatts of energy per square centimeter. This is something much more advantageous when compared to the old equipment of the type.
