The rise in inflation
The increase in inflation is the result of several external measures and actions. One of them was the coronavirus pandemic, which drastically affected several sectors of the Brazilian economy.
In 2020, inflation closed, according to the IBGE, at 4.52%, the highest since 2016. With the number of vaccinated people increasing in 2021, the economy started to return to normal, however, it still walks in short steps.
Thus, several products were impacted by the increase in prices. Gasoline, for example, was one of the heaviest, followed by other items in the basic food basket.
The increase in the prices of the basic basket
With the increase in gasoline, all other products suffer, especially those in the basic basket that need transport, since they require the use of fuel. So when the price of the commodity rises, everyone feels the impact.
A proof of this was the study carried out by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), which showed that in 17 capitals the price of the basic food basket grew. Among them are Aracaju, with an increase of 11.99%, and Campo Grande, with 29.44%.
Among the leaders of the increase are carrots, costing 166.17% more, tomatoes, with 94.55%, and peppers, with 80.44%. All of them have been hard hit by inflation over the last 12 months.
