The Project, whose main objective is to increase the annual billing limits of MEIs and Simples Nacional was sent recently by the Sescon of São Paulo, together with the letters to the federal deputies of the state. The documents forwarded required that these parliamentarians adhere to the urgent request made by Antônio Brito, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

The project document received 257 signatures from parliamentarians who are supporting this new law. And this support was possible due to the aid

of the Companies Union of Accounting Services (Sescon) of São Paulo.

According to the president of Sescon de São Paulo, Carlos Alberto Baptistão, the project needs to receive approval to become law this year, 2022, to come into effect from the year next.

The main objective of the project will take into account the accumulated inflation from December 2006 to March this year. Under the new proposal, revenue increases would increase as follows:

• MEI: from BRL 81 thousand to BRL 144,913.41;
• Micro enterprise: from BRL 360 thousand to BRL 869,480.43; 
• Company in small postage: from BRL 4.8 million to BRL 8,694,804.31.

Other changes to come

If the project is actually approved, other changes must happen for individual microentrepreneurs. For example, MEIs will be able to hire up to 2 employees, one more than currently allowed by law.

The project does not have the support of the Federal Revenue Service, as it is estimated that with its approval there will be an annual loss of R$ 66 billion in Simples Nacional revenues, in addition to fearing default. The Federal Revenue believes that most MEIs do not pay a “considerable” amount to receive this annual increase.
