Rights of who is MEI
When becoming MEI, the entrepreneur needs to pay the Simples Nacional (DAS) Collection Document monthly. From this, he is entitled to the National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ), can issue invoices, has access to a credit line, lower tax burden and social security benefits.
Who can become Individual Microentrepreneur nowadays?
To become MEI, you just need to meet some requirements, namely:
- Have a gross annual income of no more than BRL 81,000;
- Have only one registered employee;
- Not participate in another company, either as a holder, partner or administrator;
- Be included in one of the several activities that are allowed at MEI.
List of professions that can NOT open MEI
Currently, almost 70% of Brazilian companies are made up of individual micro-entrepreneurs. With the rise in unemployment and the economic crisis, the alternative found by many people was to open their own business. However, not everyone can use this resource, as some professions are prohibited from opening MEI.
Firstly, those who do not meet the minimum requirements mentioned above to open a MEI will not be able to register. People under the age of 18, pensioners, civil servants, disability retirees and foreigners without a permanent visa cannot be MEI either.
As for professions, in general, those that require a higher education diploma cannot be MEI, such as doctors, nutritionists, engineers, architects, accountants and physiotherapists, for example. In addition to these professions, which are regulated by class bodies, some others cannot be MEI either. See the list below:
