Journalist found 5 secrets of the elderly regarding the diet they take to live longer and healthier, check out what they are:

1. friends of the green

Journalist Dan Buettner noticed that of his respondents, 95% of them consumed a lot of food derived from plants or plant products. That is, a diet closer to beans and vegetables. In addition, he also noticed that spinach, kale, sweet potatoes, nuts and seeds, and whole grains are foods that are most consumed by them.

2. low meat consumption

Of those interviewed, Dan saw that meat consumption was very moderate and sometimes not consumed. The elders didn't insist on eating a good amount of meat, despite responding about liking it. Also, when consumed in moderation, meat was bad for them, so they only ate it twice a week and avoided processed meats like bacon and hot dogs.

3. dairy cut

Research shows that our digestive systems are not optimized for cow's milk products and we can get as much calcium from a cup of cooked kale or a cup of tofu as we do from a cup of milk.

And, coincidentally, the interviewees consumed little or no dairy products. When asked why, they couldn't say, but that they didn't need it and they couldn't say when they stopped consuming.

4. Zero sugar

Dan noticed that the elders only consumed anything with sugar at celebrations and on rare occasions and even at these small events, they consumed very little sugar.

5. Preference for whole foods

Most respondents eat whole foods and those that are unprocessed. An example of food consumed by them is soy tofu. Generally, they consume them raw, cooked or ground.
