In 2023, the new shipment of national identification will begin in the state of São Paulo. As of January, the new National Identity Card (CIN) will be issued in the state.

States began to issue the new documentation
In addition to São Paulo, the states of Rio de Janeiro, Amazonas, Mato Grosso and the Federal District will start issuing the new document in January. The CPF will be valid as the only identification number, and the identity document will no longer have the General Registry (RG) number.
The change is due to the fact that the Brazilian citizen could get an RG for each state. However, this possibility increased the risk of fraud throughout Brazil.
The CPF is safer, as there is only one for each Brazilian. By unifying documentation, the government and authorities in general have effective access to people's identification through the national bank.
The CIN has been valid since July 2022 in Rio Grande do Sul. Subsequently, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Piauí, Acre and Paraná started to issue the new documentation.
Deadline for issuing the new ID
Until the month of December of this year, around 74,000 new documents were issued digitally. All Brazilian states will have until March 2023 to start issuing CINs.
