The Ulbra college, in Palmas (TO), would start classes on the new medicine course next Monday, May 22nd. However, a decision by the Regional Electoral Court of the 1st region, published this Wednesday, the 16th, suspended the entrance exam in this and five other cities in Brazil.
Around 160 students were already approved and able to start their studies in the capital of Tocantins. Manaus (AM), Santarém (PA), Gravataí (RS), Porto Alegre (RS) and São Jerônimo (RS) would also receive medical courses.

Ulbra had obtained a judicial injunction, determining that the Ministry of Education (MEC) publish an ordinance to allow the opening of courses in the aforementioned cities. However, the new TRF-1 decision suspended it.
According to the Poder 360 website, Ulbra's sponsor is in judicial recovery. In addition, she faces a barrage of criticism from teachers for having proposed a reduction in their salaries.
What does the faculty say about canceling the medical entrance exam?
In a note (via g1), the Ulbra faculty stated that it complies with the decision of the TRF-1 and, therefore, will “provisionally” suspend the entrance exam for medicine in the cities mentioned. The educational institution also stressed that as soon as the courses return, it will notify those approved and those already enrolled.

AELBRA, maintainer of the Faculdades de Medicina of the Ulbra de Educação Network, clarifies that in compliance with the injunction issued in the Interlocutory Appeal No. 1014429-81.2023.4.01.0000, we inform you that the selection processes for Medicine courses, despite being authorized by the Judiciary, were provisionally suspended and their eventual resumption will be communicated in due course to the approved students and those already enrolled.
We reiterate that students are our priority and clarify that the new medical schools are the result of a meticulous study, with full approval from the beneficiary communities. We are fully convinced of the quality of our educational project.
Still in compliance with the decision, the institution informs that it will remain firm in defending the right of access to education to restore the progress of the selection processes, and in the right for the Ministry of Education to conclude the evaluation of the regulatory process regarding the fulfillment of the normative requirements for the functioning of the courses of Medicine.
During this period, participating students retain the right to a place and enrollment, which will be exercised as soon as the provisional suspension ends. Candidates who wish to withdraw from participating in the selection processes will be fully reimbursed, upon request formalized at the Secretariat.
