Project provides for distribution of cannabis-based medicine

A bill that allows the free distribution of cannabis-based medicine in the state public network is being voted on. The goal is for low-income people to have access to the drug, as it is very expensive. Project foresees distribution of cannabis-based medicine for people suffering from seizures and other illnesses.

According to Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), the children in his family learned how to act during a seizure because their cousin has Dravet Syndrome. This is a disease that causes multiple types of seizures.

This case was remembered by the governor of São Paulo because the project that provides for the distribution of medical cannabis in the state health network has come to be sanctioned.

According to him, his nephew needed to wear a helmet to prevent head injuries during crises and gained quality of life when he started using cannabis-based medications. The bill allows for the free supply of the medicine to those who need it.

However, the Electoral MP again recommended the rejection of Tarcísio's campaign accounts. However, Tarcísio reported the following:

“He only got better when he started taking cannabidiol. It's hard to have someone with Dravet Syndrome in your family. You see a child who, instead of playing, is convulsing, convulsing, convulsing.”

The governor of São Paulo announced that he has sanctioned, with vetoes, the bill that allows the distribution of cannabidiol-based medicines in the state public health network. Cannabidiol, known in the medical field by the acronym “CBD”, is a substance taken from the Cannabis plant, better known as marijuana, but which has no psychoactive effect.

The text was authored by Deputy Caio França (PSB) and Alesp (Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo), who should discuss it again, because of the vetoes. What has not yet been clarified is what the distribution rules will be and the deadline for the project to get off the ground.

Testimonials during the poll

The people who were in the audience cried with reports that were given. Before the governor spoke, two mothers were invited to give their testimonies.

The first guest said that her son had 80 seizures in a single day and therefore, she and her husband needed to sleep hugging the child to protect her in case she had a seizure during the night.

“The medicine came to revolutionize our life. It is a joy to see Victor at zero, without epilepsy”, she commented.

The second told a little of her story and mentioned that more than once she was prepared by the hospital psychologist for her daughter's death.

“Her seizures were severe, lasting an hour and a half, and we had to rush to the hospital because we had cardiorespiratory arrests. The hospital called the psychologist to prepare me for her death”. – Cidinha Carvalho

The state government, by justifying the partial vetoes in the project, showed that some articles were in disagreement with the Federal Constitution of 1988. Despite this, the governor believes that things will be resolved quickly and is quite optimistic.
