What is sustainable development and green economy? sustainable development concept

THE United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20, will be held between days June 13 and 22, 2012 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The objectives of this conference are: the renewal of the political commitment to sustainable development through the evaluation of the progress made in the last years, and gaps in the implementation of decisions taken at the main meetings on Sustainable Development, and the discussion of new and emerging.

According to the United Nations General Assembly, the Rio+20 will have two main themes: the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

As we have seen, the terms "sustainable development" and “green economy” will be extensively discussed during the Rio+20, but do you know what these terms mean?

We define as sustainable development the kind of development capable of meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability to meet the needs of future generations.

It is a type of development that does not exhaust resources for the future, and that gives the current generation the possibility of develop without harming the environment, giving future generations the chance to exist and live well according to their needs. Sustainable development will only be achieved when there is planning and awareness that natural resources are finite, that is, that these resources run out.

the term green economy it allows for countless interpretations and its concept is still not consensual. The central idea of this term is that the set of productive processes in society and the transactions resulting from them contribute increasingly to sustainable development, both in social and environmental aspects.. THE green economy proposes that, in addition to productive and social technologies, means be created by which essential factors linked to socio-environmental sustainability, currently ignored in economic decisions, become considered. In Brazil and other countries, for example, the “inclusive green economy” is being worked on in the form of programs to promote conservation or environmental recovery, support to segments of the population whose income comes from the recycling of solid waste, among others Software.

At Rio+20 there will be a space set up to present the main Government initiatives on sustainable development to visitors. This large area, located in front of Riocentro and called Parque dos Atletas, will host exhibitions from foreign countries, from organizations international organizations and the Brazilian Government, with emphasis on the Brazil Pavilion, where programs and projects to promote development will be presented sustainable.
