“We want to celebrate the success of concluding these negotiations for the free trade agreement between Mercosur and Singapore. The weeks of conversations and meetings were quite extensive”, said Julio in an interview. According to the minister, when it is valid, the agreement will expand the commercial horizon in the Mercosur member countries.
Last year, the market between Singapore and the Mercosur member countries moved around US$ 7 billion. Among the main products being exported by the South American bloc are meats, metallic alloys and iron ore. On the other hand, Mercosur members import insecticides, integrated circuits, medicines and vessels from the Asian country.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2020, Singapore invested approximately BRL 127 billion in South America, Central America and the Antilles.
The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, also pointed out that, if they are well used, these Negotiations have the potential to create a very interesting business opportunity for the productive sector South American. “This Mercosur free trade agreement with Singapore is the first signed with a country in Southeast Asia, one of the most dynamic geographic areas in the world today,” added the minister.
