Volkswagen files patent for hydrogen car
The news that Volkswagen had applied for the registration of a hydrogen car took many people by surprise. This is because the general director of the German automaker, Herbert Diess, had assured that there was no interest in continuing with studies on this type of vehicle. At the time, Diess even claimed that electric models were an imposition.
However, a year later, everything changed with the announcement that the company filed for a patent on a hydrogen vehicle. In addition, attention was drawn to the fact that the vehicle should be much cheaper than models from competing automakers. This happens because the membrane that will be used in the hydrogen cells is ceramic, not plastic.
With this, Volkswagen will come out ahead of other automakers, such as Hyundai and Toyota, which use plastic membranes that require platinum and have a higher price. Thus, the expectation is that the new vehicle reaches the market already with a very large competitive advantage.
Volkswagen's hydrogen vehicle should cover 2,000 kilometers
It is not yet known for sure when we will see this car for sale on the market, but the expectation is that it will arrive at the latest in 2026. Therefore, the car is still in the production and studies phase, although the patent application makes it clear that there is an interest in launching it as soon as possible.
Finally, it is worth highlighting another detail that caught the attention of consumers, which is the mileage that the vehicle must achieve with a full tank. That's because, with a single deposit, Volkswagen's hydrogen car will be able to travel up to 2,000 kilometers.
