In an interview with Fortune magazine, PepsiCo HR CEO Ronald Schellekens explained why the industry company food industry signed a commitment to hire 2,000 new employees every year, regardless of the economic scenario worldwide.
In the conversation, aired on the Fortune Connect Panel, the executive explained that the measure is part of the company's organizational culture which, according to him, is the best in terms of management training and leadership.

“Many companies invest in management and leadership training, but few do so as systematically as PepsiCo,” he said.
When asked about the validity of the commitment made by PepsiCo, Schellekens made it clear that, although nothing has been formalized, this is a way for the company to encourage the creation of new leaderships.
“It [hiring 2,000 new employees a year] requires, I think, a sort of institutionalized culture where we say, 'Okay, that's what the company believes. This is how we build leaders for the future,'" he explained.
Regarding the formation of new leaders, it is a fact that PepsiCo exports talent. As an example, we can cite executives trained in the company and who today are in other companies, such as Brian Cornell, currently at Target, Lauren Hobart, who is now at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Dave Kimbell, who is now at Ultimate Beauty.
Ronald Schellekens also expressed PepsiCo's sentiment regarding the rise of its employees. “We don't like it when people leave our company and become CHRO (Directors of HR) or CEO of another company. However, they always leave us to take on much bigger jobs, which makes us proud,” he revealed.
