With the recent change in the minimum wage, there was also a significant change in the contribution of self-employed workers to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS).

Adjustment in the minimum wage and its implications

The minimum wage was readjusted to BRL 1,320 last month, a significant increase of 8.91% compared to the 2022 value, which was BRL 1,302. This adjustment was based on the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) by IBGE.

Consequently, the monthly contribution to the INSS of self-employed workers was also adjusted to reflect this change.

With the new rule, the monthly contribution of the self-employed on the national floor will be R$ 145.20 or R$ 264, depending on the professional's rate. It is noteworthy that the housewives of

low income will have a new contribution amount stipulated at R$ 66.

Rates and rights

Contribution rates can be 5%, 11% or 20%. Each represents a different set of rights for taxpayers. Self-employed persons who contribute at a rate of 20% are entitled to retirement based on age or length of contribution.

On the other hand, optional contributors or workers who contribute 11% are only entitled to old-age retirement. The same rule applies to low-income housewives who contribute at a rate of 5%.

The contribution to the INSS is an important commitment to guarantee future retirement rights and other social benefits. Recent changes in rates and contribution amounts reflect changes in the Brazilian economy, specifically the minimum wage adjustment.

Therefore, it is crucial for all workers self-employed, voluntary and low-income housewives to be aware of these changes and plan their contributions accordingly.
