2 diseases were included in the INSS minimum grace period exemption list

Through Social Security, Brazilians insured by the INSS have a minimum of security on specific occasions, such as in case of illness. In situations like this, a minimum contribution time is usually required to receive. However, there are some diseases that do not need INSS grace period and two new ones joined that list. What is the grace period?

The grace period is the minimum time that the worker needs to have contributed financially to the INSS to receive the benefit. In the case of sickness benefit or disability retirement, you need at least twelve months of contribution. In addition, in all cases, medical expertise is essential for the release of the benefit.

However, in some cases there is a very great urgency, so that the Social Security chooses to help these workers. In this situation, it is necessary to be an INSS insured person, that is, to have an NIS registration or to be working with a formal contract.

So, in case of illness, the worker will be able to file legal procedures to get the aid or retirement even without the full twelve months. However, the situation must be within the established by law, that is, only some specific diseases can skip the grace period, check out what they are:

Two new diseases are part of the list that does not require a grace period

Before the new Social Security update, there were 15 diseases that allowed waiver of the grace period. Now, however, two new diseases have joined the list, currently totaling 17 diseases. They are: the Acute Stroke and the Surgical Acute Abdomen, so the complete list looks like this:

  • Active Tuberculosis;
  • Leprosy;
  • Severe Mental Disorder – With Mental Alienation;
  • Malignant Neoplasm;
  • Blindness;
  • Irreversible and Disabling Paralysis;
  • Severe heart disease;
  • Parkinson's disease;
  • Ankylosing spondylitis;
  • Severe Nephropathy;
  • Paget's Disease (Osteitis Deformans) – In an advanced state;
  • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS);
  • Radiation contamination – After specialized medical expertise;
  • Severe liver disease;
  • Multiple sclerosis;
  • Acute Stroke;
  • Surgical Acute Abdomen.
